(SPARKS, NV – January 26, 2010) State Senator Mark Amodei, Republican candidate for U.S. Senate, today received endorsement from State Senator Maurice Washington (R-Sparks) in the Republican primary race to unseat Harry Reid.
Washington, a representative for Washoe County’s 2nd District, said, “I have worked with Mark Amodei for many years in the legislature and know firsthand that he is rock solid on the issues that are important to Nevadans—issues like jobs, fiscal responsibility, health care, and water.”
“I believe Mark Amodei is the only Republican candidate who can beat Harry Reid because of his proven, experienced leadership and his unparalleled commitment to Nevadans,” Washington continued. “I am throwing my full support behind Mark Amodei and encourage other Republican primary voters to follow my lead and do the same.”
“Maurice Washington is a good friend whose support I value immensely. His active work on my behalf encourages me and all who believe in Nevada’s future,” Amodei said.
Washington served in Nevada’s State Senate from 1994 to 2010, including stints as the Assistant Majority Whip (1997-1999) and Majority Whip (2001). His tenure includes leadership as Chair of the Committee on Human Resources and Education, Vice Chair of the Committee on Judiciary, and Chair of the Committee on Legislative Affairs and Operations. Washington is the founder and pastor of the Center of Hope Christian Fellowship in Sparks, NV.
