(CARSON CITY, NV – January 28, 2010) State Senator Mark Amodei, Republican candidate for U.S. Senate, responds to the State of the Union Address.
“I am deeply disappointed that President Obama reiterated the far left’s policies in his address. The President believes government creates jobs. Government does not create jobs; people do—people who run small businesses that are the backbone of our economy.
“Instead of force-feeding Americans Harry Reid’s health care bill, the one that was resoundingly rejected in Massachusetts last week, the President should be promoting reform that all of us can support. We all want health care coverage that can be purchased at competitive rates across state lines. We want tort reform that ends frivolous lawsuits that drive up health care costs. And we all want to choose our own doctors and health care providers.
“As I talk to small business owners around Nevada, it is clear their hiring is suppressed because the unknown tax burdens of the proposed Obama-Reid health care bill threaten their survival.
“To encourage job creation, I support deep tax cuts for small businesses, not token tax credits that do not offset the costs that new employees would create when a mandated health care tax shutters the doors of already struggling businesses. Small businesses are the largest job creators in the United States, and we must not create government roadblocks that thwart their success.”
