(CARSON CITY, NV – February 2, 2010) State Senator Mark Amodei, Republican candidate for U.S. Senate, responded to President Obama’s comments about not “blow[ing] a bunch of cash in Vegas” by saying, “President Obama today again has proven he is an economic illiterate when it comes to the Nevada economy. Nevada has been one of the hardest hit states in the Recession, and if he is going to talk about Las Vegas, he should encourage people to come here because as President John F. Kennedy said, ‘a rising tide lifts all boats.’”
“Obama has demonstrated for the second time within the last few months that he has no respect for Harry Reid or for the taxpayers of our state by singling out Nevada as the destination people should not visit,” Amodei continued.
“President Obama proved in his comments today that he is insensitive to Nevada’s plight, being apparently unaware of our 13% unemployment rate. This represents another failure on Harry Reid’s part to advocate for Nevadans. Instead, Reid has become a promoter and apologist for the Obama administration’s failed agenda.
“As a fifth-generation Nevadan, this is an outrage! The last time I checked, Nevadans still pay more than their fair share of income taxes and defend our freedom by sending our sons and daughters into harm’s way, including my daughter.
“I am extending an invitation to President Obama to sit down with me when he is in our state on February 18th to raise money for Democratic causes, so that I can explain to him the economy of Nevada and the positive impact we have on the country as a whole. I also invite Harry Reid to join us because he evidently has forgotten,” Amodei concluded.
