Issues: Health Care

I believe that, in order for the United States to remain the greatest and freest nation the world has ever known, we need to put the wellbeing of our citizens first.

While America has the best health care in the world, the health care system is broken and in need of repair.

I oppose the current Harry Reid/Nancy Pelosi plan to nationalize the health care system and seize one-sixth of the U.S. economy while raising as many as 29 different taxes to pay for it. Big government historically has only run up the costs of health care, not reduced it.

Unbelievably, Reid wants to start collecting your tax dollars in 2010, but the earliest benefits wouldn’t start until 2014. As with other failed government programs, these taxes will go into a “trust fund”—a shameful budgetary gimmick that liberals like to use to distort real costs.

I believe we need to take a common sense approach to health care. We should not let the government or insurance companies choose our doctors or get between us and the care we need.

Every American should have access to health care. We need to be able to keep our insurance when we move or change jobs. We need to stop the frivolous lawsuits that cost American taxpayers billions of dollars each year. We have done that in Nevada and we need to do it nationally.

I believe in real reform that will protect patients and provide the best care possible without bankrupting America in the process.

I will work tirelessly toward this goal because you deserve nothing less.
